I made a critical error in setting up this website. I didn’t ever view the website in Internet Explorer, the most used browser out there.
The other night I was showing it to somebody, on their computer, and was using IE to show them. When Tev’s Tech came up, I thought it was the computer and hit refresh, but no such luck! This website looked terrible. The blue background of the sidebar, was shifted over so it was only partially underneath the sidebar area, while the rest of it was under the content area where these posts are.
Luckily I investigated and fixed the problem quickly. So now all you IE users who thought my website stunk, can now see it the way I intended… the way I was seeing it in Firefox.
Now for a “Down to Earth” Tev’s Tech tip:
Since this website is about telling you how to do cool and helpful stuff with your computer, let me introduce you to Firefox and some of it’s advantages (download it here).
Firefox is a web browser like Internet Explorer, but it has a few key advantages over IE:
- Its faster (it opens faster, and loads web pages faster, this means a boost in internet speed without paying your internet provider more; but don’t expect a huge increase its minute).
- It has lots of cool plugins (I especially like Ad-Block Plus [click the link from inside Firefox to install], which removes all advertisements from web pages; and Better Gmail, which makes Gmail much cooler–it already outdoes all the other email out there, but with this plugin it hardly resembles email anymore).
- Its Open Source (probably doesn’t matter a lot to you, but it means that a lot of people out there are working on it, so when there are updates, you can bet they’ve been tested time and again, and were thought up by people who use the internet a lot).
I recommend you download and install it and at least the Ad-Block Plus plugin. It will ask to import your existing favorites (bookmarks) and other settings, so it’s not hard to switch. You’ll just want to open Firefox instead of IE to take advantage of it’s benefits. To install the plugins, just come back to Tev’s Tech and click the above links to each of the plugins. Also, make sure you browse their Add-Ons to see all the customizations you can download.
Note: If you’re one that’s slow to adopt things and don’t like changes much, just pass this one by. Google has a new browser out called Chrome. It’s even faster than Firefox and I like it better in many ways. Unfortunately it doesn’t currently support plugins, so I’m not ready to move over, and can’t recommend it to casual users.

I think you ought to put a plug in for Chrome. It’s so amazing. And it just keeps getting better! Rumors say they’ll add plug-ins by May…
